Good and Evil Analysis

The relationship between the image and the topic of "Good and Evil", as it relates to the subject of religion and popular culture.

  The image (1) represents American sacred stories regarding super heroes that was part of the "Lecture - American Sacred Stories". The fictional tales in this popular culture comic book work much like the sacred stories in religious traditions.

The image is covers philosophy. There are many branches of philosophy, and one of these branches is logic, or the structure of argument and rational thought. New findings in psychology and neuroscience are pushing philosophers to rethink questions like the meaning of free will and just exactly what faith is (2).

According to the Christianity, one has a free will to do good or evil. This free will is eternal. However, there exists an external force (Satan) who tempts and tries to influence that internal free will.

The Socratic way relates to the Greek philosopher Socrates' philosophical method of doubt and questioning of another to elicit a clear expression of a truth supposed to be knowable by all rational beings (3).

Doubt and questioning of another to elicit a clear expression of truth has to do with questioning if good and evil internal or external to humans.
